War Crimes
War crimes refer to crimes committed during times of war against military personnel or civilians that go against internationally accepted codes of behavior. Genocide, rape, and torture of prisoners of war are examples of war crimes.
In 1949 the four Geneva Conventions for the protection of war victims were ratified by 125 nations.
