Rape
Rape is a serious crime in which one person has sexual intercourse with another without that person's consent. The use of this term was once limited to cases in which a man forced a woman to have sex with him. Today, however, the definition has been expanded to apply to both male and female victims. It also includes cases in which the rapist used threats or deception, rather than physical force, to get the victim to submit.
Rape is an age-old crime that often merited severe punishment. Ancient Normans would cut off a rapist's testicles and gouge out his eyes.
