Mafia
Since the 1980s the American Mafia has been in decline. The FBI has systematically clamped down on mob operations, nabbing hundreds of members of organized crime families and their associates. Nonetheless, the Mafia remains active. Several of its old, reliable sources of income—such as gambling—have dried up, but other, more modern crimes—such as stock and securities scams—have taken their place.
The Italian American Mafia began in the Sicilian neighborhoods of New York inthe late 1910s and early 1920s.
