Genetic Engineering

Genetic engineering is the selective manipulation of an organism's genetic material (the building blocks of heredity) by technological intervention. This technology enables scientists to change the genetic makeup of plants and animals, creating organisms with desired attributes and eliminating unwanted traits. By transferring genes from one species to another, it is possible to create entirely new organisms that do not occur naturally.
