  1. The U.S. Census Bureau classifies a household consisting of a single person or of a single person living with nonrelatives as a nonfamily household. In 1950, 10.6 percent of U.S. households fit this discription. By 2000, that figure had increased to 32 percent.
  2. The 2000 U.S. Census found that 3.9 million U.S. households contained three or more generations of family members.
  3. Of people over the age of fifteen, approximately 43 percent of African Americans, 25 percent of whites, and 33 percent of Hispanics, Asians, and Pacific Islanders have never been married.
