Civil Rights   

Civil rights guarantee individuals equal access to public resources, protection from harm by the state, and participation in government and politics. Such rights to equality, as they are sometimes called, include the right to vote and freedom from discrimination based on race, religion, ethnic background, or gender. Civil liberties and civil rights are often closely intertwined; civil rights contribute to civil liberty and freedom by allowing individuals to participate equally in society.
