Chemical Weapons
Chemical weapons are made of natural or synthetic (human-made) substances designed to disable or kill an enemy or to deny them the use of resources such as agricultural products or foliage in which to hide. The effects of the chemicals may last only a short time, or they may result in permanent damage and death. Most of the chemicals used are known to be toxic (poisonous) to humans or plant life.
On September 18, 2001, letters containing anthrax were received by the New York Post and the news divisions of ABC, CBS, and NBC in New York City.
