Major Election Issues: Jesse Johnson's Position
Johnson supports abortion rights, but would encourage education programs to reduce unwanted pregnancies.
Johnson supports overturning No Child Left Behind. He promotes competitive pay for teachers, smaller classrooms, making the arts necessary, increasing adult literacy, and home schooling, community-based public schools.
Johnson would like to create responsible mining and logging practices, including stopping mountaintop removal and implementing land redevelopment in regions where this practice is common. He believes stewardship programs should be promoted and receive funding. He wants better enforcement of the clean water act, and additional protections for clean water, air, and environment.
Johnson advocates universal health care, which would include prescription drugs and dental care as well. He supports expanding state low cost prescription plans to lower prescription costs for all and promoting healthy lifestyles to lessen the incidence of preventable diseases.
Johnson is committed to fair trade policies over free trade policies such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the policies of such organizations as the World Trade Organization.
